Dye Sublimation Printer Reviews

With all of the talk about inkjet and laser printers, the dye sublimation printer is often
overlooked. This type of printing is not new either, it has been around for decades and used by professional
photographers to get photo lab quality pictures. And the best part is that it can often be better than the standard
digital photo printer.
Dye sublimation printing works by melting ink to the paper instead of spraying it like inkjet printers
do. This process of melting actually creates better images because the colors meld together like real
photographs and not pixilated with hundreds of dots like some printers will produce when looked at closely.
The cost of these types of printers is not unlike that of inkjet and will produce better results. The ink itself
only comes in four different colors, cyan, magenta, black, and yellow.
Canon SELPHY CP 800 Sublimation Printer
As mentioned dye sublimation produces better quality pictures, but the photos will also last longer. The
Canon SELPHY sublimation printer produces waterproof images that can last 100 years. That is even
better than your local photo shop. The SELPHY is geared towards photo printing and not for printing text on
regular A4 paper. Besides, you wouldn’t want to waste this printer for regular text documents. The SELPHY CP
800 can also print photos from a memory card. Changing to a new ink pack is easy since they come in a cartridge
for easy removal and replacement.
Kodak Professional 8500 Printers
This is another photo printer that is about thermal wax, resin, and dye sublimation printing. It can
print up to 8x10 inch prints. The prints come out well and only take about 1 minute to print. The photos come
out resistant to water and it is very hard to put finger prints.
The biggest problem with dye sublimation printer is the price. Many of the higher end of printers cost more than $1000. But when you consider how much money you
would save by printing your own pictures versus going to the photo lab, you will see significant savings. If you
know someone who has a sublimation printer then you may want to ask them to print off a few pictures to see how
they turn out. We bet that you will be hooked!
