With so many things being digital, it is hard to imagine that anything is still analog. One thing that people have quickly forgotten is how good a photograph from a film negative is. The problem is integrating your negatives or slides with your computer. Thankfully there are many companies who have saw the need for this and have created a 35mm slide scanner.

What can you do with a 35mm Slide scanner?

The purpose is to take 35mm film negatives and convert them in to digital format. There is no need to take them to the photo store, which would cost a lot of money. You can scan your negatives without the embarrassment of someone else looking at them.

Easy To Use - There are not a lot of parts and buttons to operate on a 35mm slide scanner. In fact most people skip the instructions and figure it out on their own in under 10 minutes.

Features - Many are equipped to convert 35mm slides to 5MP high resolution images with the press of a button. They also included an automatic focus and preview window so that you can align your negatives properly and view it before you scan it. They connect to almost any computer via USB cable (Some do not have support for MAC computers). Each 35mm slide scanner will come with its own unique software which will catalog and store any saved images automatically for you. Some come with the option to hook up to a television. I only recommend buying a scanner for this feature if you have a high definition television, otherwise you may be disappointed in the quality.

Potential Problems - Some come with the option to scan direct to an SD memory card but don’t come with one when you purchase it. So if you plan on sitting down quietly somewhere to do your scanning then you should pick up a SD card so you don’t need to be beside a computer or laptop.

Cost - A standard 35mm slide scanner will cost about as much as a inkjet printer, about $55. There are no extra items that you need to replace except for the light if you use it extensively or it should happen to burn out. If it burns out quickly then you may be able to get a warranty return or replacement.

Many 35mm slide scanners will allow you to scan upwards of 70 slides an hour. While it is not a fast process, it is much cheaper and you get some privacy for your more intimate photographs.
